Nobody Sees How Hard I'm Working

A workshop on expressing appreciation to volunteers — how, why and where to begin.

Volunteers are driven by a host of factors. They want to feel rewarded by the work they do. They want to be of service to the world around them. And, like all people everywhere, they want to be appreciated. In the busy haze of an average workplace, this third point, simple gratitude, often gets overlooked.

In this workshop we’ll use writing techniques to explore and refine our skills of appreciation, and to look at how we can use them to bring out the best in volunteers. We’ll brainstorm the different types of appreciation that operate in volunteer communities and we’ll dive into useful, genuine ways to use them. Everyone will walk away with three expressions of appreciation written to different people their their volunteer world, and dozens of ideas of how else to leverage words to create more energy, more cohesion and more joy in their volunteer communities.
