Sustained achievement of any volunteer program requires careful succession planning. Yet, beyond selecting a successor, how the transition is managed can make the difference between success and failure. When left to chance, transitions for key volunteers (or leaders of volunteer programs) can be complicated and challenging, resulting in costly consequences for an organization. Fortunately, by planning and anticipating the most common challenges, organizations can move smoothly through the key volunteer and volunteer leader transitions with confidence.

Through attending this workshop, facilitated by Suzanne Clark, participants will learn to:

  • Evaluate and plan for better off-boarding and on-boarding of key volunteers.
  • Help their key volunteers set the organization up for transition success when planning their resignation or retirement.
  • Find strategies to help their next volunteer leader(s) step in with as smooth a transition as possible.
