Sustained achievement of any volunteer program requires careful succession planning. Yet, beyond selecting a successor, how the transition is managed can make the difference between success and failure. When left to chance, transitions for key volunteers (or leaders of volunteer programs) can be complicated and challenging, resulting in costly consequences for an organization.
