Everyone, without exception, should have the opportunity to make an impact on their community through volunteering. By making volunteer experiences more accessible, non-profit organizations develop volunteer constituencies that are more reflective of the communities they serve. The Pride in Volunteering Project aims to enhance 2SLGBTQ+ inclusion in volunteerisim.
Representatives from two of Pride in Volunteering’s Champion Organizations, Shaminda Perera, MEAE (Manager of Learning & Resource Development, Volunteer Mississauga Brampton Caledon) and Ziva Gorani (2SLGBTQ+ Special Projects Coordinator, Peel HIV/AIDS Network), will facilitate an engaging and informative learning experience for non-profit professionals wanting to strengthen inclusion and diversity for their organizations, with a volunteer engagement lens.

Shaminda Perera, MEAE, has been involved with the non-profit sector since 2011 and is a strong supporter of diversity and inclusion. With over 14 years of experience in all aspects of adult learning, he is a Learning and Development Strategist. At Volunteer MBC (Mississauga Brampton Caledon), Shaminda leads three major portfolios: the Volunteer MBC Learning Centre, the Volunteer Referral Service, and technology integration. Shaminda introduced the “Service Excellence Blueprint (SEB)” as a learning and audit tool to help not-for-profit organizations build a culture of inclusion, care, and service excellence within the organization.
Ziva Gorani is a Kurdish Syrian pansexual transwoman. Ziva moved to Canada in 2016 from Syria via Turkey. Working in the humanitarian sector in Turkey and Syria, Ziva developed an activist voice when she began speaking about her experience as a queer trans woman displaced by civil war and religious intolerance. Ziva’s work with the Peel HIV/AIDS Network increases visibility and inclusion of 2SLGBTQ+ communities through community development and interventions to improve wellbeing.
